Admission Requirements
General Admission Requirements (All Students)
Applicants may be assessed for admission to Royal Roads University on the basis of their formal academic training and/or on the skills, knowledge and background developed outside traditional learning structures. This student-centred approach opens doors to higher learning for qualified candidates who otherwise might not meet traditional admission requirements, and thereby serves the needs of a diverse group of students.
Ideal candidates include self-directed and highly motivated people who demonstrate high levels of program-specific knowledge and skills and who possess strong interpersonal, research, and communication skills.

English Language Requirements
English is the primary language of instruction and communication in all domestic programs at Royal Roads University. As part of the application process, all candidates whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English speaking, listening, reading and writing by one of the following means:
Submission of an official English language proficiency score report which meets one of the following minimum* standards:
- IELTS Academic: 6.5 or better with no single band score below 6.0.
- TOEFL (IBT): 88 overall or better, with no section score below 20
- PTE-A (Pearson Test of English - Academic): 60 overall, with no section less than 58
- Graduation from a recognized diploma or degree program from a college or university at which English was the primary language of instruction in an English speaking country.
- Complete the International Study Centre's undergraduate or pre-master's pathway program
An applicant who believes they are fully proficient in English may provide a written submission to the Admissions Office, demonstrating English proficiency through other means. Please review our English Language Requirements - Waiver Process.
* Meeting minimum English language requirements does not guarantee admission. Year-three entry and some programs may require alternate levels of competency.

Flexible Admission
Applicants who do not have the formal academic education to qualify for admission may be assessed on the basis of both their formal education and their informal learning, in accordance with the Flexible Admission Policy at Royal Roads University. This includes applicants with a complex learning history and for whom documenting their learning is either difficult or complex.

How to Apply
All applicants, domestic, international, standard admission, and flexible admission follow the same application process.
