Northern Lights College
Northern Lights College (NLC) was established in 1975 and serves the residents of the school districts of Peace River (North and South), Fort Nelson, and Stikine.
The college operates eight campuses and learning centres, situated in Atlin, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Dease Lake, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Hudson's Hope and Tumbler Ridge. Students may choose from a wide range of academic/university transfer, basic education, career, vocational, and trade programs.
FACILITY/SERVICE HIGHLIGHTS: Student housing is available only on the Dawson Creek Campus. Daycare services are offered at the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Chetwynd campuses.

Domestic students (and students from English-speaking countries) must meet one of the following:
- English 12 (B)
- English Studies 12 (B)
- English Literature (B)
- English 12 First Peoples (B)
- English 050 (B)
- English 099 (B)
- one university-level English course (C)
- complete the NLC Writing Assessment for appropriate course placement
For international students, including students who received their secondary education in another language other than English, must meet one of the following:
- IELTS = overall score of 6.0 or higher, with no band less than 5.5*
- TOEFL iBT = 78
- Canadian Academic English Assessment (CAEL) = 60 overall band
- Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment (CLBA) = 8 in each section
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) = 57
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) = 76
- CambridgeMichigan Language Assessment (CaMLA) = 68
- completion of a post-secondary credential that is assessed as equivalent to a similar program from a reputable Canadian institution with its own appropriate English Language requirement

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)
Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who are applying for admission to Northern Lights College must meet one of the following:
Academic and Career/Technical Programs - You must:
- have graduated from a BC secondary school, or equivalent; OR
- be lacking no more than two courses from BC secondary school graduation (if available, these must be completed while attending the college); OR
- be accepted by special arrangement in view of your experience, maturity or ability.
Academic Upgrading Programs - You must:
- be at least 17 years old and have been out of school for at least one year OR receive special admission for entry
Vocational Programs - You must:
- have completed Grade 10 for most programs. However, some programs require Grade 12 with specific prerequisite courses (detailed in the program listings for NLC in Education Planner).
Out-of-Province
Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who are applying for admission to Northern Lights College must meet one of the following:

Mature Student
To be considered a mature student you must be at least 19 years old and have been out of school for at least a year. As a mature student you do not need to be a secondary school graduate but will have to meet the specific admission requirements of your desired program.
