University of the Fraser Valley

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) enrolls approximately 15,000 students per year. It has campuses in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope, and Agassiz, as well as a growing presence in Chandigarh India.

UFV is large enough to offer variety, and yet small class sizes allow you to get to know your instructors and learn in a hands-on environment. UFV offers more than 100 programs, including two master’s degrees, 15 bachelor’s degrees, and majors, minors, and extended minors in more than 30 subject areas. It has more than a dozen trades and technology programs. Admission policies are flexible, and there are options to study full-time, part-time, or online.

Many programs ladder into one another, allowing you to earn a certificate or diploma on the way to completing a degree. Others offer a co-operative education option where you can combine study with professional, paid work experience.

Research opportunities exist at the undergraduate level. Thriving international programming makes for a culturally diverse community and great study aboard options. Continuing education and academic upgrading offerings make learning a lifelong experience. Clubs, and activities enhance student life and our Cascades athletics are award-winning.

  • Transfer Credit

Many credit-level courses offered at other recognized post-secondary institutions have been evaluated for equivalency by UFV. The UFV Office of the Registrar maintains a list of transfer credit agreements. Transfer credit agreements for most B.C. institutions are published in the B.C. Transfer Guide. If no transfer equivalency is listed on the B.C. Transfer Guide that does not mean that a course will not transfer to UFV. In this case, a course outline (syllabus) must be provided for review to determine the appropriate course equivalency at UFV for transfer credit. Once an official transcript is evaluated for transfer credit, the official UFV transcript will list all UFV equivalent transferred courses including grades.

Only transferable courses with a minimum grade of D or P (pass), when equated to the UFV grading system, can be applied towards the requirements of any UFV undergraduate credential. Some departments may require a grade higher than a D or P. Failed courses are counted in admission grade point average (GPA) calculations.

    See the Transfer Policy

  • Transfer Credit Process

Must send a special request transfer credit to the Credential Evaluation office to articulation@ufv.ca. A transcript is considered official if it arrives to the UFV Office of the Registrar in the original sealed envelope with the institution’s name and address imprinted upon it. The transcripts must have a current issue date, and bear the official institution seal or authorizing signature.

There is a document evaluation fee ($75 for domestic students, $250 for international students) for documents originating outside Canada. Submitted documents will become the property of UFV. Only documents that are considered, by UFV, to be irreplaceable will be returned to the student, provided the student requests return of the document upon submission. For documents that are not in English, including official transcripts and course outlines (syllabi), a certified translation into English done by a certified translator may also be required. Exceptions may be made for transcripts in French, but not for the course outlines (syllabi).

  • Transfer to Other Institutions

Specific Credit: Credit is granted for a specific course when the course has a minimum 80% course content overlap of a UNBC course. Specific credit can be used as a pre-requisite for students to complete additional UNBC courses. It can be used to fulfill UNBC degree requirements.

If students plan to take UFV courses with the intention of transferring later, they may apply for Qualifying Studies or Engineering Transfer (whichever suits their goals most closely). Students should obtain calendars from the university to which they wish to transfer, and consult with an Academic Advisor to assist with course planning.

A minimum of six to eight weeks is required for the evaluation process. Detailed course outlines may be required if no current course equivalencies exist.

  • Mature Student & PLAR

Post-secondary programs at UFV normally require BC secondary school graduation (or equivalent) for admission. However, some programs accept mature students without secondary school graduation. Each program has specific admission requirements in place to ensure students have a reasonable opportunity to succeed. If mature student entry is available for a program, the requirements and minimum age will be stated. Program-specific admission requirements for these programs are detailed separately in each UFV’s program profile in the EducationPlannerBC Search Database.

  • International Student

There are three types of requirements that you need to meet to qualify for admission at UFV:
